There’s nowhere else in the UK that rivals Pembrokeshire for coastal adventures, where epic experiences are part of our every day, and if we can get wet and muddy doing it – even better!

Get Wet and Wild

Kayaking/Canoeing

We love a paddle at Bluestone and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is the perfect backdrop to get out on a kayak or canoe and enjoy yourself. Under your own steam, you have the chance to explore at your own pace and more importantly, decide when and where to stop for a break.

Where to try it?

It’s the best of both worlds for Kayakers in Pembrokeshire. If you are a beginner, or just want a taster you don’t even have to leave the resort and can try a session on Bluestone’s private lake. Led by a qualified instructor, they’ll help you master your technique during the session, and once you're competent let you out on the lake for some solo paddling.

Or you can head off resort with us on a Cleddau River Adventure. The all-day canoe trip takes you down the Cleddau River and includes a bushcraft lunch where you cook your own food on a fire. We tailor the session for you and your group, so it can be as easy or hard as you want!

Surfing

The south-westerly winds coming off the Atlantic and that all-important swell that makes Pembrokeshire one of the best surf spots in the UK.

Added to that the clear waters of the National Park, gorgeous coastline, and choice of 50 beaches and there is no excuse not to get in the water. Surf competitions are regularly held at the likes of Freshwater West and Newgale beaches, attracting competitors from all over the world, but don’t let that put you off. Pembrokeshire is a great place to learn the basics and get out in the water for the first time.

Where to try it?

West is best when it comes to surfing! Head to Newgale, Broad Haven, and St Davids, for your surfing adventure to begin.

Kite Surfing

The combination of south-westerly winds with the epic expanses of golden beaches on the west side of Pembrokeshire, makes it the perfect location for kite surfing, especially if it’s something you’re trying for the first time.

Start out on the beach to master the basic technique, before moving to the waves or stay on the sand and use an off-road skateboard to glide up and down the sand.

Where to try it?

Equipment hire is available at Newgale Beach, or if you’re a complete beginner there are taster sessions available with trained instructors who can get you going with the basics.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding has exploded in popularity over the last few years. Accessible and simple to learn, it’s an easy activity to try on lakes, rivers and at the beach and here in Pembrokeshire we have them all.

Where to try it?

You can try paddleboarding right on the resort at our own private lake. The sessions will include expert tuition from our qualified instructors, who will talk you through the basics and help you find your feet, and depending on how well you go, there could even be time for a few games.

Coasteering

If you’ve never heard of coasteering before, the first disclaimer is you will get wet, very wet and the second it’s an incredible amount of fun. Like taking a wild walk along the coastline all at the same time, you’ll experience wild swimming, rock climbing, and cliff jumping all in one afternoon.

There’s no experience necessary for this, and the only aim is to enjoy yourself. An instructor will guide you along with tried and tested routes around the coast, where you will scramble over rocks, jump into pools and swim around rocky formations. You will get closer to wildlife than you would ever imagine and be able to appreciate the beauty of the National Park in a completely new way – all while feeling completely cut off from the world.

Coasteering is great for families as it is accessible for all ages and doesn’t require any previous experience. You move as quickly, or slowly as the group needs and can stop at different points while letting the thrill-seekers try the more challenging aspects.

Where to try it?

Coasteering is something you need to do with a qualified and experienced instructor. We don’t recommend just heading out to the coast alone as anyone, however skilled, can get into trouble. Our Pembrokeshire Coast Adventure is perfect for any thrillseekers looking for a challenge. Mixing a range of activities, including coasteering, you'll explore the coast on an all-day adventure where you'll visit caves, secluded beaches, and scramble along the rocks!

Sailing

The combination of rugged coastline and sheltered harbours gives Pembrokeshire the perfect conditions for sailing. The Milford Haven Waterway is one of the deepest natural harbours in the world and inwards, provides miles of sheltered waters to explore. Outwards, there’s the famous Pembrokeshire coastline dotted with coves and creeks to keep your busy and wide-open waters beyond.

Where to try it?

The Milford Haven waterway is probably the best place to start, with centres at Dale, Milford, and Neyland providing tuition, RYA courses, and boat trips.

Diving

Dubbed the Welsh ‘Barrier Reef’, the Pembrokeshire coastline is a diver’s paradise, with clear, clean waters, an eclectic mix of aqua species, and a treasure trove of secrets hidden under the waves.

The diverse coastline means there’s a varied array of different diving sites to choose from covering most depths and varying in difficulty. There’s a chance to make your name as well. There are 350 known wrecks along the coast, but that number is increasing every year – so you never know what you might uncover.

Where to try it?

The Marine Nature Reserve around Skomer and Skokholm islands have become popular dive spots thanks to the diverse wildlife, and there’s also the wreck of The Lucy, which ran aground on Valentine’s Day in 1967 and now sits at the entrance of North Haven.

Out of Little Haven, there’s Stack Rocks and Hens and Chicks, while at Fishguard there’s two of the best-known sites - Strumble Head and Needle Rock. You don’t have to keep to the coast either, the harbour at Milford Haven hides many secrets including a slew of wrecks.
